Small Davidson Pleased with Jordan Test
Anthony Davidson believes he acquitted himself in his test for Jordan at Silverstone today, despite being too small for the car
The BAR test driver was forced to sit lower in the car than he would have liked because of his short frame and, despite having not driven at Silverstone for almost a year, he still managed to get up to speed.
"I haven't driven recently but it was a good test," he told Autosport-Atlas. "I had a proper seat fitting with the team last Wednesday, and the seat had proper support, but I was just sitting a bit too low in the car.
"The guys did everything to get the pedals close to me, but I was a bit too small.
"Luckily I know the track well and I got used to the car fairly quickly. I could push harder in the afternoon."
Davidson's running in the Jordan was delayed until just after lunchtime because of an engine failure in the morning. He was forced to sit in the pits for a few hours while the team fitted a new Toyota power-unit.
"I was out of the car for three hours in the morning because they had to change the engine," he added. "But after that I went through their tyre programme, did some set-up and it was all positive for the team and me."
Davidson is pushing hard to land a race drive for next year and was only allowed to test for Jordan after being released from his BAR testing duties.
The Briton is set to face a wait yet to find out his future, though, with Jordan considering their options and Davidson's future very much dependent on where Jenson Button ends up.
"It is good of BAR to release me for this one off test," he said. "I am still contracted to them until the end of the season, so I will test with them in Jerez next time.
"After the season I am free to test anywhere and I can see myself with a few opportunities - there is BMW, BAR, Jordan and even Williams. But at the moment, Jenson is holding everyone up."
And although some believe that his chances at Jordan will have been hurt by Red Bull's purchase of Minardi - because it leaves the Silverstone-based team with the only seats for pay-drivers on the grid - Davidson is still optimistic.
"I think I've still got a chance there," he said.
