Silverstone day 2: da Matta sets pace
Toyota star Cristiano da Matta set the pace on the second day of testing at Silverstone yesterday (Wednesday), outpacing the Williams of Ralf Schumacher by over a second
The rain that hampered the first day of testing continued in the morning and early in the afternoon, although it eventually cleared up to allow teams some dry weather running for the first time.
Da Matta was working on set-up work and Michelin tyre development, and professed himself happy with his two day's of work. "We made some good improvements to the TF103's set-up overnight and did a bit of tyre testing today," he said. "Overall it has been a highly productive two days for me, with over 150 laps completed."
Schumacher continued on a programme of mechanical set-up work, and also conducted some engine reliability testing and tyre development work.
The Jordan duo of Ralph Firman and Giancarlo Fisichella propped up the bottom of the timesheets, the British rookie outpacing his Italian team-mate despite completing just 21 laps.
