Sergio Perez reckons hot temperatures will shake up Canadian Grand Prix

Sergio Perez is predicting a tough - but fascinating - race in Canada, with higher temperatures meaning drivers are stepping in to the unknown with their tyres

The Mexican reckons his Sauber team has not delivered as much in Montreal as he had hoped, but believes that hotter conditions in the race mean there could yet be some surprises.

"I am optimistic," said Perez, who qualified 15th. "I want to be very optimistic for the race, as we have nothing to lose from that position.

"I think it will be interesting in the race. With the low downforce we are running here, and compared to the high downforce we had in Monaco, it will be very interesting to see the stability, and the rear degradation. It will be quite difficult.

"I want to be optimistic but I clearly know that it is going to be very difficult to score some points. I think we can make it though."

Perez believes the medium downforce nature of Montreal, allied to the long straights, were never going to be too ideal for the Sauber.

"I think this circuit does not fit us very well because of the long straights," he said. "We have to run less downforce than other teams to get the top speed back, so it is not ideal. And that is why we are not so competitive here.

"Let's see in the race with degradation, and it will be interesting with the hot conditions how the car performs.

"With the hot temperatures it will be very interesting to see how the car performs and the tyre performs, because we have not tried these tyres with the hot temperatures."
