Sepang confirms three-day test

The Sepang circuit has confirmed that it will host a major three-day Formula One test ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix, as autosport.com revealed in November

With a three-week gap between the season opener and the second round of the series in Sepang, teams had been pushing hard to organize the test in Sepang to avoid the expense of shipping cars and equipment back to Europe.

After agreement was reached with Bridgestone and the Sepang organisers, the test will take place between March 27th and 29 th.

Sepang's press officer Azhar Ghazali told The Star newspaper: "It (the testing sessions) is further recognition of our efforts to make the circuit in Sepang as a hub of motorsports in Asia.

"Almost all the F1 teams are based in Europe and it would make sense for them to commit their personnel to test the cars in Sepang instead of flying them back to the other side of the globe.

"Most of the F1 teams also have their own test drivers. But the main drivers are expected to take part in the testing session in Sepang because of the official status."
