Second place worth fighting for
Grand Prix racing's leading lights have vowed to race as hard as ever despite the fact that Michael Schumacher and Ferrari have the championships locked away
David Coulthard, who has previously said that nothing less than winning truly interests him, admitted that he still feels the same way but regards every race as an opportunity to win rather than as part of a whole that makes up the championship.
Coulthard is part of a four-way fight for runner-up spot in the championship which also includes Schumacher's Ferrari team-mate Rubens Barrichello and both Williams drivers.
Barrichello said: "Second place would be a plus. I've finished fourth in the championship and I've been third. Fighting for second right now and having all the support of the team to be able to do that, is good. I would welcome it."
The Williams mission statement for the year, meanwhile, was to improve upon last year's performance and finish second in the constructors championship, which the team is on target to do.
"The priority for us as a team is to maintain second place in the constructors championship," Ralf Schumacher explained. "If it is possible for me to come second on the way, I would appreciate it. But for us to be anywhere near the championship next year, we have to keep working and close the gap to Ferrari."
Team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya added: "I'm in my second season in F1 and you want to do the best you can and better than you did the year before, so second would be a step forward and even third would be good as well."
