Schumacher Refuses to Get Carried Away

Championship leader Michael Schumacher refused to get carried away after scoring his sixth win out of ten races to move 31 points clear in the standings with only seven Grands Prix to go.

Schumacher, who had started Sunday's French Grand Prix in second place behind his brother Ralf, was able to move ahead of the Williams driver after the younger German struggled with his second set of Michelin tyres, enabling Michael to take things easy in the final part of the race.

After scoring his 50th career win Schumacher extended his lead in the standings to 31 points over McLaren's David Coulthard, who finished in fourth place following a stop-go penalty, but the three-time World Champion refused to start relaxing.

"It is a comfortable lead but there are still seven races to go and 70 points to give away," said Schumacher. "Until mathematically it is secured I will keep fighting like I did today. As we saw last year things can change very quickly in just two races."

"Our pitstop strategy worked well, and my second stop was really good and I was flying," Schumacher said. "It was the perfect result to have 1-2 with Ralf and to have Rubens third - it's obviously a good day for Ferrari."
