Schumacher Confident of Retaining Title

World Champion Michael Schumacher is confident he will be able to win his sixth Formula One Championship despite the threat of McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen and his own brother Ralf.

World Champion Michael Schumacher is confident he will be able to win his sixth Formula One Championship despite the threat of McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen and his own brother Ralf.

"There is close competition but we have a great car and I don't see why we shouldn't have the opportunity to win this Championship," said the German ahead of this weekend's French Grand Prix.

"It is important to do the best we can. The main concentration is on Raikkonen at the moment but we have to watch out for Ralf. The Championship is tight and we have another opportunity to win here in Magny-Cours."

Ferrari driver Schumacher has been made 1/7 favourite to beat off McLaren-Mercedes rival Kimi Raikkonen and Williams teammates Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya to the Championship. Schumacher leads Raikkonen by seven points heading into this weekend's French Grand Prix - the race where he won the title last year.

The Ferrari driver, who is looking for an unprecedented seventh win in the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours, insists the close battle will not make this year's title better than any other - providing he wins it.

"I have never compared one Championship with another," he added. "They are all different. This year's would be good if it happens. It is a tight competition, and I have had that in the past.

"I still like what happened last year, but even last year there were some close battles. Some were easy victories, but sometimes you like those. I'm never confident enough to say that I can win every race."
