World Champion Michael Schumacher lowered the Barcelona track record in the morning of the fourth day of testing at the Spanish circuit.
The Ferrari driver posted a quickest time of 1:15.020, lapping more than two tenths of a second faster than the previous benchmark, set by McLaren's David Coulthard in testing earlier this year.
Five-time champion Schumacher needed only 13 laps to crush the track record, and he finished more than 2.5 seconds ahead of his teammate Rubens Barrichello, who was second fastest.
Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer was third quickest ahead of Australian Mark Webber, who was the fastest of the two Jaguar drivers on track. Teammate Antonio Pizzonia, at the wheel of the new R4, continued with the development of the Cosworth-powered machine.
The Jordan team, who were unable to test on Wednesday after some components of the car did not arrive on time, were again hit by trouble this morning. Italian Giancarlo Fisichella got back to action today, but the Roman lost the rear wing of his EJ13 while running at high speed down the straight.
Despite the incident, Fisichella could complete 20 laps and finished as seventh fastest only ahead of Canadian Jacques Villeneuve, who covered just three laps with the BAR 005.
