Schumacher Avoids Engine Change
Michael Schumacher has been spared a ten-place grid penalty for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix after Ferrari revealed they do not need to change his engine despite his crash in practice
Schumacher spun at the final Parabolica corner in this afternoon's practice session, damaging the right-rear of his F2005.
Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn said that only the only significant damage was to the car's gearbox and that the engine wasn't affected.
Brawn added that the seven-times World Champion was caught out having changed some of his differential settings just before the accident.
"He had just adjusted his differential map the lap before," Brawn said. "His tyres better than before and he pushed harder than before and he lost it. We don't have to change the engine, but gearbox taken a knock and will need changing."
