Sauber Says Team in Good Hands

Team boss Peter Sauber says he is happy to hand the running of his team over to BMW after the German company announced a buyout of the Swiss outfit

After 35 years at the helm of the team, Sauber has sold a majority stake to the German carmaker, who aim to race under their own name in the future.

Sauber will give up the operative management of the company and will work only as an adviser for BMW.

The Swiss team principal, owner of one of the three privateer teams that were left in Formula One, said the future of the team is now in good hands.

"I can say the response in Switzerland was very positive like they were in Munich too and I think I can anticipate this question, the partnership with BMW is ideal for Sauber - not just the team but me myself," said Sauber.

"Many journalists have asked me about my successor, this is difficult particularly with a view to F1, now it really was a problem and I can say that this problem has solved in an ideal way, I have been involved in this company and tied to this company for 35 years and I am happy I can hand it over into good hands."

Sauber admitted his sentiments had to be put aside while negotiating a deal to hand his team over.

"Well, it is not easy we were talking about the heart, it is not easy to open up my heart and I think I will really feel all this much later, the reason is what dictates all this process," he said.

"The comparison of the daughter going to the altar and being married, I don't have a daughter but this comparison is a good one, the bridegroom is fitting so everything will be nice."
