Sauber Confirm: Frentzen to Race in the US GP

Sauber confirmed today that German Heinz-Harald Frentzen will race in the United States Grand Prix as a replacement for Brazilian Felipe Massa, following a test for the team at Silverstone on Thursday.

Sauber confirmed today that German Heinz-Harald Frentzen will race in the United States Grand Prix as a replacement for Brazilian Felipe Massa, following a test for the team at Silverstone on Thursday.

Sauber had voiced concerns over Frentzen's ability to fit into the car as he is 13cm taller than their two drivers, but they have decided the test proved he should be able to compete without problems.

"The decision puts us in a strong position to defend our championship position," said team boss Peter Sauber. "Heinz-Harald made a very strong impression at Silverstone and he adapted quickly to the car as well as the seating position."

Frentzen, who crashed heavily at the end of the test session, returned to Monaco for a check-up with his doctor on Friday and was declared fit to race next weekend. But he remains concerned about his comfort in the car over a full race distance.

"The seating position is still a compromise and we will try to improve it prior to the United States Grand Prix," said Frentzen. "But I am very happy I can race for the team at this early stage."
