Sauber chooses Friday testing option

Sauber-Petronas is the latest team to switch to Friday testing during a grand prix weekend after evaluating its options after the British Grand Prix

Based on the evidence of improved form from Friday testers Renault and Jaguar, which opted for the two-hour session at the cost of a limited test programme during the course of the season, Sauber believes it made the wrong decision at the start of this year.

"We discussed this substantially a year ago," Peter Sauber said. "Looking back at this season, I have to say we really should have done it. It would have been much better for us.

"Despite testing so many times, our progress is not good enough. And if you take into account the costs of testing, the Friday test solution seems even more alluring. Even more so since we have only tested with one car anyway, and with Friday testing you get 20 additional test days with a single car. The solution is almost tailor-made for us."
