Rosberg and Hamilton make identical tyre choices for F1 season finale

Formula 1 championship rivals Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton have made identical tyre selections for the title-deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Rosberg heads into the season finale with a 12-point lead over Hamilton, meaning he can seal the 2016 crown with third place even if Hamilton wins at Yas Marina.

The Mercedes team-mates will contest the weekend on an equal footing in terms of tyre selection, both choosing four sets of softs, two super-softs and seven ultra-softs to fill their allocation.

Of their likely rivals for the weekend, Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo have chosen an extra set of softs and only six ultra-softs, while Ferrari team-mates Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen have split their approach.

Raikkonen has gone for the same selection as Mercedes, while Vettel will take five sets of softs and only one set of the super-soft tyres.

Only Williams's Felipe Massa and McLaren drivers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button have joined Vettel in choosing just one set of the red-marked compound.
