Ron Dennis Q&A

Kimi Raikkonen extended his slender championship lead over Michael Schumacher with a solid second place in Monaco, but a little more luck in traffic might have converted it into a victory. The Finn had a fraught time on his circuit debut with Sauber and again last year with McLaren, but this time he hardly put a foot wrong all weekend and drove very intelligently on Sunday. More points from David Coulthard put McLaren back into the lead of the teams' championship. Adam Cooper spoke to Ron Dennis after the race

"At the moment I'm still calming down over Villeneuve, which cost us the race win. We had five laps' more range that Montoya on the last pit stop, when Kimi was at his quickest. Jacques blocked him for over half a lap and cost us an awful lot of time. Of course we didn't come out much more than a couple of seconds behind Montoya after the stop, so if Jacques had been a bit more courteous, and not spent so much time blocking us, we might have been in with a chance of winning."

"I think Kimi did an excellent race. It was a hard fight from beginning to end, and I don't think he backed off at all. You know you're not going to overtake anywhere else other than in the pits, unless you get another driver to make a mistake. He put Montoya under pressure right through the race. He did a very good job."

"I think at the end of the day we did a good job, and that's what it's about. We had a good tyre, but we're a little disappointed not to win."

"It's typical. It's the nature of this circuit, and traffic is always a problem."

"Yes, it was good fight, no question."

"We've got four points lead. It's not as big as we would have liked, but it's a lead."

"It's going to be tough for us. It's a high power circuit, but we've got a good balance with the car. I think we'll be able to take points. But beating Michael will be a bit difficult."
