Renault gears up for Monaco attack
Renault has underlined its emphasis for the forthcoming Monaco Grand Prix by using two of its 20 allocated car test days outside of its running on grand prix Fridays at Paul Ricard in France this week
Test driver Allan McNish was in action yesterday (Wednesday) and again today in an R23 chassis, evaluating various aerodynamic set-ups and tyre compounds ahead of the Monaco event on June 1. McNish said he was happy with the way things were going after recording 96 laps on Wednesday.
"This test allowed us to try a lot of things back-to-back," he told autosport.com. "We've had loads of time and we've already decided on which aero configuration we will use at Monaco."
Renault's technical director Mike Gascoyne said of the test: "We had a very useful day's testing for what will be one of the most important races for us, the Monaco Grand Prix. We ran a substantially updated aerodynamic package, conducted some tyre evaluation and also worked on the electronic systems."
McNish will concentrate on long runs today, plus a specific type of Michelin tyre that Gascoyne reckons "might be interesting for the upcoming race".
