Red Bull boss Horner says it is too early to judge Vergne, Ricciardo

Jean-Eric Vergne's recent strong form is still not enough to prove whether he or Toro Rosso team-mate Daniel Ricciardo have the better chance of landing a seat at Red Bull next year

The Frenchman delivered the best result of his Formula 1 career with sixth place in Canada - just a fortnight after another points-scoring finish in Monaco.

And having outqualified Ricciardo in the last two races, Vergne is proving that he is well in contention for a Red Bull drive should the team elect not to retain Mark Webber.

Is Vergne forcing his way into Red Bull contention?

But Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes it is still too early to judge whether or not Vergne or Ricciardo are good enough to offer a better prospect than a more experienced frontrunner like Kimi Raikkonen.

"He [Vergne] had a very strong weekend. He drove a good qualifying and a strong race so he deserves it," said Horner.

"I think the two of them are both very capable drivers and they are feeding off each other. They almost alternate over different weekends, and it is great to see young talent starting to flourish."

When asked if he felt either man was ready to step up to a team like Red Bull, Horner said: "It is still too early to make a call on that, but we have all the information through working with those guys and following them closely.

"But it is great to see the progress they are making."

Red Bull expects to sit down with Webber during the summer break to decide whether or not they will continue to work with each other in 2014.
