Ralf Schumacher Q&A

Life is sweet for Ralf Schumacher now, as it is obvious that the Williams-BMW FW23 is competitive on every kind of track. After his wins at Imola and Montreal, second place now seems like a disappointment, and for three consecutive races he has battled with his brother for the lead. Circumstances robbed him of possible wins in both the Nurburgring and Magny-Cours. Adam Cooper caught up with the German in France

"It is certainly nice to win a Grand Prix, or even two, but then we're going not for Grand Prix wins. We're trying to be competitive the whole time, and I think we achieved that by now. Since a few races we are always up there and fighting for wins. Our main target is to go for the championship next year."

"It obviously lifts the whole team up, the whole performance. It gives everyone a big push."

"I think just the whole combination is good at present, and we all try to make the best out of it."

"The tyres are always very important. We have a new manufacturer so there's a bit of an up and down, but so far they have delivered very good tyres."

"I hope so, well see."

"He'll always be my brother so it is something special to fight against him. We'll see if there are more races like that. It's actually easier, because I know him better, so it's easier for me. I know how he reacts and I know how his style is in several turns, so it's quite helpful sometimes."

"We can do nothing against it, it's an FIA decision and we don't want to change it. The only thing that will be the case in the future is that we will watch other teams more carefully as well, and so the same as Ferrari and report them as well. I think if you break a rule like that, the penalty is OK, but then the white line is there to avoid any danger on the circuit. Since I didn't put anyone into danger, I just crossed the white line, you have to ask yourself if there was sense to give such a penalty? Maybe we could discuss that issue after the race, and put a money penalty, or a suspended penalty, something like that. A few other drivers crossed it as well. They were lucky, let's put it that way. Rubens was crossing it, and Michael was driving a little bit across it as well, but they were just lucky."

"No, I didn't really. I just didn't really take enough care at that moment, but I was watching in the mirrors. As David was past there was no one following me, so I thought it was alright to move over."

"No it hasn't been discussed at all this year. It was the first time that there was anything against it since a long time. I remember other occasions in previous years when drivers crossed the line and drove into other cars or put other cars off the track and didn't get penalised, but anyway."
