Ralf Defends Drivers over Safety Meeting
Ralf Schumacher has played down the significance of a number of drivers declining to attend next month's meeting with FIA president Max Mosley to discuss safety
Only 12 drivers have said they will attend the meeting at Cannes on August 1, a number that the FIA claimed was "disappointing" considering the subject matter.
But Schumacher, who will be at the meeting, believes that all the drivers are in agreement about what needs to be discussed and that means not everyone needs to attend.
"Since we are a group of drivers, it doesn't need all of us to be down there," said Schumacher. "You don't need 20 people down there that's pretty clear.
"We have agreed amongst us what we want and we have agreed what we should talk about. That should be fine even if there are just five or six of us, so it doesn't really matter."
Schumacher confirmed that the main topic for discussion at the meeting was testing safety.
"From what we have as a safety standard at race tracks is not what we have at tests," he explained.
"And we do more laps at tests than we ever do at a race meeting, so there are things that have to be addressed just to make sure...at tests there is the same danger of having a severe accident now, to have the same medical supply and everything."
