Finn Kimi Raikkonen was satisfied with his performance in today's first qualifying session for the Canadian Grand Prix.
Resting seagulls scattered as Championship leader Raikkonen ventured out on track in first place under the single lap qualifying format, the Finn coaxing his car to a sixth best time of 1:35.373.
The McLaren driver made a mistake on his flying lap, but claimed he had done the best he could given the tricky conditions.
"There is no doubt that today was quite difficult because of the weather conditions," said Raikkonen. "I'm getting used to being the first car out for qualifying but it does make it more difficult as there are no lines to follow.
"I ran wide during my lap but it was really not a big problem and in the circumstances I think we did the best we could."
Teammate David Coulthard finished as eighth fastest after also going off the track during his flying lap.
"Not a lot to say as it was just too wet for anything, really," said Coulthard. "There was no grip and I think we were all just aquaplaning and concentrating on getting the car back in one piece.
"However let's see what happens tomorrow when hopefully we will get a chance to run the car in drier conditions."
