Raikkonen Hoping for Alonso Bad Luck

The Finn finished fourth in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sunday while Spaniard Alonso took second place behind McLaren's Juan Pablo Montoya to put himself on the brink of being crowned the sport's youngest World Champion.

Alonso stretched his overall lead on second-placed Raikkonen to 27 points with just four races remaining.

"My goal is just to win this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, and as long as I can keep winning then you never know what's going to happen with Alonso," Raikkonen told Reuters after competing against his fans in a go-cart race on Monday.

"I won't believe it's over until there's no chance at all. Maybe Alonso will have a few bad races, and maybe I will have some luck on my side."

Luck has certainly not favoured the Finn this season and on Sunday his misfortune was compounded by a tyre failure that forced him into an unplanned second pit stop.

On Saturday, an engine change robbed him of pole position and forced him to start 11th on the grid.

"There is only so long you can talk about luck though," added Raikkonen, after competing in a go-cart race sponsored by his Swiss watch-making sponsors.

"We have to make our own luck within the team, by working harder to end the car's reliability problems. We know the car is fast, so it's the reliability we have to get right."

Another option would be to change team, but Raikkonen continued to deny rumours linking him with an imminent move to Ferrari.

"There have always been rumours about me and Ferrari, ever since I first started racing in Formula One," the Finn pointed out.

"It's just the time of year when everyone starts speculating about which driver is going where, and there's certainly nothing new in this particular rumour.

"I have a contract with McLaren, I'm happy with McLaren and no, I have not had any talks with Ferrari - so that's that."
