Q & A with Renault's Patrick Faure

Conducted and provided by Renault's press office

Q. Mr Faure, what's your opinion about yesterday's race?

Patrick Faure - Renault F1 Team President: We had a bad day. It happens, sometimes. We didn't finish the race but we could have won : it's frustrating, but it's motor racing. It happened already and it will certainly happen again. We took a fantastic start and our cars were the best on the grid. Two unexpected problems transformed what should have been an excellent week-end into a race we should forget.

Q. What about the fight for the title?

PF: Fernando lost 10 points to Kimi yesterday, but in a way, he gives back what he took at the Nurburgring. We're now back to the post-Monaco situation. As far as the Constructors' championship is concerned, McLaren scored with only one car in Montreal. Moreover, we're still leading comfortably. There's no need to panic. Once again, the best car yesterday was ours. With hard tyres, we were quicker than the McLarens. And this car was using soft rubber.

Q. The mid-season will soon be upon us and Renault still leads both championship. Would you have believed it two months ago?

PF: We knew we worked well last winter. The chassis is competitive, the engine is improving all the time, and we've got very talented drivers. We've exceeded our pre-season expectations but we'll keep pushing hard. We are leading and this is satisfying. Only two teams are ahead of the competition this year: Renault and McLaren. We've been better than the opposition so far and we'll do our best to keep the lead until the end of the season.
