Practice 2: Montoya fastest, Ferrari quick

Saturday morning's opening free practice session was a Williams vs Ferrari duel. Juan Pablo Montoya took the top spot for the British team but, in marked contrast to Friday's qualifying session, the Prancing Horse's Rubens Barrichello was just 0.185secs in arrears. Ralf won the battle of the Schumachers to take third place

Montoya lapped in 1m15.668s in practice session two, compared to Barrichello's 1m15.853s. And with first qualifying pacesetter Ralf Schumacher (Williams) just over a tenth faster than elder brother Michael's Ferrari to take third, it seems that the gap between the Michelin and Bridgestone heavyweights might not be as big as we were led to believe.

Kimi Raikkonen was the best of the rest for McLaren-Mercedes, although he was half a second shy of Montoya's fastest time. Team-mate David Coulthard struggled once more, and could only set the 11th fastest time.

The Renaults of Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso were sixth and seventh, while Olivier Panis (Toyota), Mark Webber (Jaguar) and Jenson Button (BAR) rounded out the top 10.

The Saubers of Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Nick Heidfeld were 12th and 13th, ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella (Jordan), Cristiano da Matta (Toyota) and yesterday's hero Justin Wilson (Jaguar). Jordan's Ralph Firman, and Jos Verstappen and Nicolas Kiesa of Minardi completed the runners, with the latter just 0.3secs off his Dutch team-mate.
