Paffett puts F1 ambitions on hold
DTM championship favourite Gary Paffett has admitted that he is likely to put his Formula One ambitions on hold for another year - even if he wins the title at Hockenheim this weekend
The Briton, who impressed McLaren when he conducted several tests for them two years ago and was strongly linked to a drive at Sauber last season, has not given up on his Grand Prix hopes but has said he is likely to remain in touring cars for another season.
Speaking to Autosport-Atlas, he said: "I'm definitely still looking at Formula One, but I don't want a drive where I'm in for a bit and then that's it.
"I would be very interested if a good opportunity came along, but I'm only looking at a good opportunity.
"I'm due to stay with Mercedes in DTM in 2006 but I'm flexible if an F1 deal came along. But to defend the title, should I win it this weekend, would be what I am planning to do at the moment."
Paffett's success this season has earned his great support from Mercedes-Benz motorsport boss Norbert Haug - which could certainly prove useful in his bid to get back behind the wheel of an F1 car again.
