Mugello test day 4: Sato flies

Takuma Sato returned to F1 testing duties today for BAR-Honda and promptly went quickest on the final day of the four-day Mugello test. The Japanese driver, who didn't even complete a timed lap in the morning while working on aero-mapping, was nearly two-tenths faster than team-mate Jacques Villeneuve

Villeneuve spent the day evaluating tyres for Bridgestone and completed the most laps (78) of all the drivers present.

"I did nothing but tyres today," said Villeneuve. "I completed lots of laps. I did try some of the aero parts that Jenson Button tested earlier in the week. I think we need to do some more work on them."

Antonio Pizzonia finally got some running in for Jaguar after two engine failures yesterday. The Brazilian concentrated on set-up work in the morning and then in the afternoon evaluated a new front suspension lay-out that team-mate Mark Webber had been developing in a previous test.

Cristiano da Matta was the last of today's runners and carried out aero work for Toyota having been forced to sit out most of yesterday's test. The Brazilian came away from the test confident for the Spanish GP: "Barcelona could be a very good race for me. I know the circuit and we made some good progress today!"

Will 2022's all-new cars look like F1's concept model?

Formula 1 provided its clearest example yet of what the 2022 cars are set to look like when it presented a full-scale concept to the world during the build-up to last weekend’s British Grand Prix. Underneath the special shiny livery was a design that hinted at the future, but teams will be digging into key areas that may reap differing results
