MP tables motion on Button and Brawn

MP Richard Burden has tabled a parlimentary motion calling on Westminster to celebrate the achievements of Jenson Button and the Brawn GP team in clinching the 2009 drivers' and constructors' world championships

The Labour MP for Birmingham Northfield tabled the motion yesterday, and is particularly keen that the house of parliament recognises the scale of the task facing Button and Brawn this season following Honda's pull-out last winter.

"That this House celebrates the success of Jenson Button and Brawn GP in winning the Formula 1 World Drivers and Constructors championships," it reads.

"Recognises the massive achievement that this represents as the Brawn team was only created at the start of 2009 following the withdrawal of Honda from Formula 1; pays tribute to all those who have contributed to this achievement, including the drivers, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, the leadership team of Ross Brawn and Nick Fry.

"All the current staff of Brawn GP and all those former Honda employees who are no longer with Brawn but whose work before 2009 also helped build the foundations for success this year; and notes that Brawn's success underlines the excellence of the UK's motorsport and performance engineering industries."
