Mosley: Michelin Could be Thrown Out
FIA president Max Mosley is not ruling out the possibility that the governing body will decide on a single tyre supplier for the sport and has warned that Michelin could be kicked out of Formula One
Mosley has apportioned most of the blame for the Indianapolis debacle - which saw seven of the ten Formula One teams fail to race last weekend due to faulty tyres - on the Michelin tyre company, stating they had failed to do their job and provide safe tyres to their teams.
However, Mosley has indicated that Michelin would now be under investigation of the FIA to determine whether it has been providing unsafe tyres before the US Grand Prix and the Briton did not rule out the possibility of Michelin being banned from the sport.
Asked if the World Motor Sport Council could reach a decision to have only one tyre manufacturer in Formula One, Mosley replied: "This is conceivable, but that would be a decision taken on grounds of safety.
"We have asked Michelin for details of all failures they have had in the last two years. There is a suggestion there have been other side-wall failures in the past. We do not know if that is true, we have to investigate.
"If it turns out there have been other failures, it may well be that the technical department would conclude these tyres are dangerous and they would not be allowed to run in Formula One.
"But we would have to have independent experts. It would not be a decision for the World Council."
