Montoya Working on Qualifying Pace

Juan Pablo Montoya says he is working hard with his McLaren team in order to get back to fighting for pole position this season

The Colombian driver, who missed two races due to a shoulder injury, qualified in a season-high fifth place for tomorrow's European Grand Prix.

With the Williams team, which he left at the end of last year, Montoya had scored 11 pole positions in 66 races, although the last time he started from the top spot was in Germany in 2003.

His teammate Kimi Raikkonen, meanwhile, has started from pole in the last three races and will be second on the grid tomorrow.

Montoya says he is still adapting to his car and that the hard work is beginning to pay off.

"I have been trying pretty hard to improve my fast lap performance and over this weekend the work with the team has improved a lot," said Montoya. "It is a matter of working a bit more and fine-tuning the car a bit more to my needs. I think mainly they are fixing it.

"I am always trying to work around the problems but it has been like that the last couple of races. It is a different way of driving the car to get the laptime so I have been adapting myself to the car a lot and we have done a lot of work back in the factory and I am pleased.

"Things are starting to come together and it is a matter of time as to when it happens."
