Montoya Promises to Help Williams get Title

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya has promised Williams he will do all he can to help them win the Formula One Constructors' title after seeing his own Championship hopes disappear.

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya has promised Williams he will do all he can to help them win the Formula One Constructors' title after seeing his own Championship hopes disappear.

Montoya, who stormed out of Indianapolis on Sunday after a drive-through penalty destroyed his chances of beating Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, said he had taken two days to calm down afterwards.

"I left the track quickly because I was so mad," The Sun newspaper quoted him as saying. "Anything I said would have got me into trouble. What happened was a big blow. It took me two days to get back to normal and accept it's all over.

"Without the penalty I feel I could have been second or third, which would have put me either five or seven points behind Schumacher with everything to play for."

Montoya finished sixth in the US Grand Prix, leaving him 10 points behind Schumacher with just Japan remaining on October 12 and no hope of equalling the German's six wins.

But Ferrari are three points clear of Williams in the constructors' battle, and Montoya said he will fight for his team. "I'll be fighting for the runners-up spot and trying to hand Williams the constructors' title," said Montoya.
