Montoya 'Pissed Off' by Raikkonen's Blocking

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya claimed his McLaren-Mercedes rival Kimi Raikkonen should have known better after the young Finn blocked one of his fast laps in Saturday's qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix.

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya claimed his McLaren-Mercedes rival Kimi Raikkonen should have known better after the young Finn blocked one of his fast laps in Saturday's qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix.

Montoya finished in fifth place, his lowest grid spot since the Australian Grand Prix at the start of the season, and believes he could have finished third if he had not come upon Raikkonen on his third run and then Jenson Button in the Renault on his final qualifying attempt.

The Williams-BMW driver was captured by Sky Digital+ immediately after the Raikkonen incident, cursing the Finn on his team's pits-to-car radio, and he admitted to journalists in the Spa paddock after qualifying that he was more than a little annoyed.

"I was really pissed off, you know," he said of Raikkonen's failure to move over. "I went through Blanchimont and I saw him and I thought ah, he'll move over. He didn't. I was behind him for half a lap.

"It was especially bad as we were on such a long straight. It's not like you're going through corners in a qualifying lap and you can't see. If you are going slow you should look in your mirrors. I was pissed off, but shit happens."

But Raikkonen, in the FIA press conference, admitted: "I didn't see him. I was looking in the mirrors and I just saw him at the last minute and I just went straight through the Bus Stop because I didn't want to be in front of him."

Montoya and Raikkonen have been Formula One's entertainers with exciting wheel-to-wheel battles in the last two races.

But despite the McLaren-Mercedes driver's impressive pace this weekend and the continued impressive speed of the Ferrari cars, Montoya is still expecting to be in the fight for success on Sunday.

"Our chances are pretty good," he said. "I think we were quite competitive in qualifying it was just that two out of four runs I had traffic. Here it is always a big risk at the first corner but we will see what happens."
