Montoya 'not ready' to win title
Juan Pablo Montoya is not yet ready to win the world championship, Williams technical director Patrick Head has claimed
The Colombian finished third in last year's title race, but has only a single grand prix victory to his name despite taking 10 pole positions in his first two seasons in Formula 1.
The Williams team rates Montoya highly, but Head has voiced a fear that the former CART champion could waste his talent.
"I think Juan has enormous talent," he said. "I think he's got quite a way to go to be at a level where he could win a championship.
"I'm sure we'll be having some friendly and open talks over the winter with him, because Juan has immense talent and I think it would be very sad if it got wasted."
"But, unless he can apply his very good level of intellect appropriately, he won't achieve the results that I think he should do and is capable of."
Williams has set a provisional date of January 31 to launch this year's FW25 in Barcelona. The car is expected to be very different to last year's FW24 as the BMW-powered team strive to make up the wide performance gap to Ferrari.
