Montoya: McLaren Deserve Title
Brazilian Grand Prix winner Juan Pablo Montoya believes that McLaren now deserve to go on and claim the Constructors' Championship after their 1-2 finish at Interlagos
The team took their first 1-2 result since the 2000 Austrian Grand Prix and, although Kimi Raikkonen had to see rival Fernando Alonso capture the drivers' crown, there is still everything to play for in the constructors' battle.
And Montoya is in no doubt that just as Alonso is worthy of the drivers' crown this year, so McLaren deserve some accolade for their pace-setting MP4-20.
"I think finally we got a 1-2 that we have deserved since the beginning of the year," he said.
"We probably lost the Drivers' Championship to him (Alonso) when he was stronger, but now we are stronger we deserve the Constructors' Championship."
Montoya admitted that he had enjoyed his drive to victory in Brazil, especially because it came after a close fight with Raikkonen.
"It was a lot of fun," he said. "There was a big fight with Kimi all day long and it was not easy, especially after the second stop. But it was just close enough."
