Montoya: I'll Only Help Kimi if I Need to

Juan Pablo Montoya has said he will not give way to teammate Kimi Raikkonen in this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix if rival Fernando Alonso is in a position to win the World Championship

Although Montoya says he has done everything he could in the past few races to help Raikkonen in his bid to close down Alonso's sizeable Championship lead, the Colombian claims that there will be conditions on him continuing to offer assistance from now on.

Alonso only needs to finish third at Interlagos to claim the title - and Montoya has said that if the Spaniard is in a position to take the crown on Sunday then he will not sacrifice victory for his teammate.

"If Fernando is running third I probably should be able to win the race," said Montoya. "If something changes then I will probably help Kimi again.

"It has been my decision in the last races to help Kimi, and here it's going to be the same thing. It is not a matter of team orders or anything, because team orders are not allowed but you've got to be a team player and that's what I've been doing the last few races.

"But if I'm in a position to win and Fernando's running third I will probably win the race."

Raikkonen needs to outscore Alonso by five points this weekend to ensure the title chase lasts until the Japanese Grand Prix. He currently lies 25 points behind the Renault driver.
