Montoya Hopes to be Third Time Lucky in Monaco

Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya is gunning for victory in Sunday's Monaco Formula One Grand Prix after two successive disappointments.

The Williams driver qualified on pole last season but retired after 46 laps. The previous year he crashed after completing just two laps.

Williams have not won in Monaco for 20 years, Finland's Keke Rosberg securing their last triumph in 1983, but Montoya said the team had reason to hope that run of failure was about to end.

"The car has shown a lot more potential," said the Colombian, who retired with an engine failure in Austria two weeks ago while leading that race. "Last week in the test it showed more promise again and we have got more things here so we are really heading in the right direction.

"The car is a lot more competitive and it has been getting a lot more competitive race by race. I think the only race we struggled in was Barcelona," he said on Wednesday.

"Last year we were on pole and I think this year with a shorter wheelbase it should be a lot better, it should go through the slow corners a lot better. So hopefully we will be able to challenge for a win here."

Montoya has just one career win to date, the 2001 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, while Williams have not won since the Malaysian Grand Prix of March 2002.
