Michelin reshuffle staff

French tyre manufacturer Michelin has undertaken a restructuring of its technical department in a bid to land its first world championship title since returning to Formula 1 in 2001, autosport.com can exclusively reveal. Michelin's F1 manager Pascal Vasselon will move to another part of the company

Although Vasselon has been viewed as an integral part of the Clermont Ferrand-based company's efforts since it rejoined grand prix racing, it is believed that Michelin has decided that now is a good time to make a management change after its failure to land a world title since its comeback.

Michelin came closest to that achievement in 2003 but its hopes were dashed following a controversial rule clarification after the Hungarian Grand Prix relating to the width of the company's tyres that forced it to introduce new designs. It failed to win any of the final three races of the season as Ferrari powered to another title.

Michelin had gone into the 2004 campaign confident that it could beat Ferrari, on the back of some ultra encouraging testing times, but it quickly became clear that Bridgestone and Ferrari had moved up another notch in their relationship as they easily won the title. In the end Michelin won only three races.

Vasselon is believed to be moving to a non-motor racing related job in the United States focusing on 4x4 tyres.

Michelin has yet to announce who will replace Vasselon.
