Michelin Investigating Williams Failures

Michelin have launched a full investigation into the tyre problems suffered by Williams in Sunday's Turkish Grand Prix

Australian Mark Webber and Germany's Nick Heidfeld twice suffered right rear failures during the Istanbul circuit's inaugural Formula One race.

No other team supplied by the French tyre manufacturer suffered such problems.

Nick Shorrock, director of Michelin's Formula One activities, said the company had inspected the kerbs and issued advice after Webber had also suffered a failure in Saturday's final free practice session.

"We looked at our tyre and we didn't find any technical anomaly," he said.

"When we looked on the track what we did find on turn 13 is that there is a kerb which is a little bit more aggressive perhaps than the others.

"(We said that) potentially the danger could be that if the drivers take that on the inside, as they do because you can see the tracks, coming back they could pinch the tyre."

Shorrock had no idea why just Williams were affected.

"It could be anything," he said. "It could be the kerb, it could be the car. We've nothing yet to identify the cause."
