Michael speaks about his 'terrible day'

Michael Schumacher has spoken about the death of his mother and the support of his Ferrari team after a brave performance to win the San Marino Grand Prix on Sunday, his first victory of the 2003 Formula 1 season

Although he did not attend the press conference after today's event, Schumacher spoke about why he decided to take part.

"My mother loved to be at the track when we were karting at Kerpen," he said. "She loved to see us race. My mother and father always supported us and made it possible to do what we do now. She would have wanted me to do the race today, I'm sure."

Speaking of the help from within the Ferrari team which helped get him through the day, Schumacher added: "Everyone in the team, and I mean everyone, from the president, through technicians, engineers, mechanics and the cook, has given me the feeling of how much they back me over this terrible day. It did me good."
