Mercedes' 2016 Formula 1 car makes track debut at Silverstone

Mercedes hit the track for the first time on Friday with its new Formula 1 car for the 2016 season, the W07 Hybrid

The car completed just under 100 kilometres around Silverstone as part of a promotional event, as allowed under the F1 regulations, with Nico Rosberg initially at the wheel, followed by three-time champion Lewis Hamilton.

The car will make its official debut on the first day of pre-season testing on Monday at Barcelona's Catalunya circuit.

Hamilton, aiming to become only the fourth driver in F1 history to win a third successive title alongside Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, will drive the car on day one.

He and Rosberg will then alternate over the remaining three days of running.

Mercedes is understood to have made considerable improvements to its power unit over the winter ahead of defending its constructors' and drivers' titles.
