McNish Confident of Staying in F1

Allan McNish is confident he will remain in Formula One next year, but he is in no hurry to complete his arrangements until the sport has finalised its own plans for testing restrictions or changes.

Allan McNish is confident he will remain in Formula One next year, but he is in no hurry to complete his arrangements until the sport has finalised its own plans for testing restrictions or changes.

The Scot, who has been told he will be released from his role as test and reserve driver for Renault, believes it is in his best interests to wait until the general picture clears before he makes his move.

"There are a lot of things happening," he said. "There are a lot of changes going on and there are meetings every day. The teams are talking about testing and it could be there will be more testing at races next year with a different scale of needs.

"We may end up seeing more drivers working at Grands Prix and that will change the whole thing for everyone."

His comments came in the wake of talks suggesting that four hours of testing could take place at Grands Prix on Fridays with qualifying moved to take place on Saturday and Sunday. In effect, this would introduce the long-awaited 'two-day weekend', but McNish said he was not waiting only for that before making his move.

"I have a team here that I think is competitive and where I could work," he said. "I can't say more now. And I have a few other things to look at as well. I am pretty confident I will have something sorted out by the end of next month."
