McLaren Not Ready to Give Up

McLaren boss Ron Dennis has insisted that his team are not going to throw in the towel on their World Championship challenge despite their disastrous German Grand Prix

Kimi Raikkonen had looked set to close the points gap on title leader Fernando Alonso with victory in the German race when he was forced out of the race with an hydraulic problem.

That handed the win to Alonso, who now holds a 36-points advantage with just seven races remaining.

But although Dennis concedes that their title ambitions are more difficult now, he has said that while the title is mathematically still possible to win then his team will keep trying.

"The speed and general performance of the cars were exceptional and clearly should have provided Juan Pablo (Montoya) and Kimi with the opportunity of a one-two finish," said Dennis.

"Juan Pablo's excellent drive from the back of the grid to second clearly demonstrates our capability. Of course the mountain is now a bit higher and steeper to climb, but our commitment to the challenge remains undiminished - it's more difficult but not impossible."

When asked whether he was ruing Raikkonen's incredible run of bad luck, which has now seen him suffer mechanical dramas in the last three Grands Prix weekends, Dennis said: "I don't believe in luck, neither good nor bad."
