McLaren Dominate Practice 2 - Germany

Test driver Alexander Wurz, who finished fastest in the first session after 21 laps, put in another 37 laps of the 2.842-mile track in the afternoon run as he sped to a session-topping time of 1:13.973 under darkening skies.

Championship challenger Kimi Raikkonen, determined to shake off his bad luck and make his obvious pace count this weekend, was the fastest race driver as he finished second just 0.603 seconds off his teammate's pace.

But title race leader Fernando Alonso, who has already admitted McLaren are ahead this weekend, remained in contention despite running no laps in the morning as he finished 1.587 seconds back in third.

Juan Pablo Montoya was fourth fastest, narrowly missing out on securing McLaren perfection with a one-two-three finish, while Ricardo Zonta, the Toyota test driver, finished fifth fastest.

Giancarlo Fisichella, in the second Renault, chose not to set a time in the first session but was sixth quickest in the afternoon with Felipe Massa, of Sauber, in seventh place.

Red Bull Racing test driver Vitantonio Liuzzi survived a spin to set the eight fastest lap but his teammate David Coulthard was not so lucky as he spun out early in the session.

Jarno Trulli secured ninth place for Toyota while home hero Michael Schumacher failed to shine in the cool conditions and could only manage the tenth fastest time more than two-and-a-half seconds off the pace.

Raikkonen led the early times but Wurz pushed the benchmark into the 1:13s with 25 minutes gone as David Coulthard spun his Red Bull Racing machine backwards into the gravel at turn 17 without setting a time.

Montoya also went off track, at turn one, and Liuzzi then followed his team's more experienced team leader Coulthard by spinning at turn two but he was able to recover and return to the pits.

Christian Klien ensured all three Red Bull machines had off-track excursions when he made a mistake at turn six and Narain Karthikeyan went off briefly at turn eight as he struggled again for Jordan.
