Massa just focused on winning race

Felipe Massa is setting his sights exclusively on winning the Brazilian Grand Prix tomorrow following a dominant pole position on Saturday

The Ferrari driver, seven points behind championship rival Lewis Hamilton ahead of the final race of the year, secured his third consecutive pole position at Interlagos, much to the delight of the noisy crowd, who erupted every time their hero jumped onto the track today.

Crucially, McLaren driver Hamilton could only finish fourth behind Toyota's Jarno Trulli and Massa's teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

The Briton needs to finish in fifth to secure the title.

Massa said, however, that he is not thinking of what Hamilton does and he is instead just focused on winning the race.

"I am not thinking about that, I am thinking about the race," Massa. said. "It is stupid to think about Hamilton all the time, otherwise I don't drive the car. I just concentrate on my job, try to be quickest on the track and that is what we need."

"We have 73 laps tomorrow which is pretty long but it's always better to start from the front. We have a good car, we improved on Friday and this morning we proved our car is very competitive around here, and we showed it in qualifying in Q3.

"It is always a good start to be in front. I will try tomorrow my best to win the race and that is the main thing."

He added: "I would say I was very comfortable and very quick all around the session, but in Q2 I made a small mistake in turn 4. I went off the kerb in Turn 4, lost a couple of tenths. I put everything together in Q3 which is better and where it counts. We showed great performance."

"The car is just perfect, already from the first lap on Friday things worked very, very well. We started with great pace and great balance, even usage on the tyres was the opposite compared to the last race and maybe other races. Here we need to take care of the tyres."

The Brazilian was also delighted with the support from his crowd.

"The people around is amazing," said Massa. "It's so nice to be here making the third pole position in a row in Brazil in front of this fantastic people which is 100 percent emotional about motor racing.

"That is great for us, to come here and see you have so many people who love what we are doing, it is difficult to describe with single word our feeling, especially my feeling being Brazilian in front of my people but also racing for a fantastic team which is very emotional as well."
