Massa cleared to recuperate at home

Felipe Massa has been told he can continue his recovery at home after undergoing a series of tests at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo

The 28-year-old, who was discharged from the AEK hospital in Budapest nine days after his accident in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, underwent a further thorough medical examination upon returning to Brazil.

According to a statement from Ferrari, all the results of the tests for abnormalities came back negative, and Massa was given the all-clear to continue his recuperation in the comfort of his home.

"Felipe has had a remarkable recovery," said Massa's personal doctor Dino Altmann. "We did a series of in-depth tests and the outcome is very encouraging so that we, together with the hospital's medical staff, decided that it wouldn't be currently necessary to further intervene from a surgical point of view.

"The best thing for him now is to go back home, where he can calmly convalesce and rehabilitate."

Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher will replace Massa in the European Grand Prix, though it remains unclear how and when the Brazilian is likely to make a return to the cockpit.

Massa has already stated his desire to race again however, saying on Monday: "I'm feeling much better now and I want to recover as soon as possible to get back behind the wheel of a Ferrari."
