Lewis Hamilton was unstoppable in British GP - Mercedes' Toto Wolff
Lewis Hamilton is "unstoppable" in conditions such as those experienced at the British Grand Prix, reckons Mercedes Formula 1 chief Toto Wolff
The world champion commanded the Silverstone race through its wet early stages, the transitional period and onto the fully dry track.
GRAND PRIX ANALYSIS: How Hamilton dominated Rosberg
There had been a similar situation in Monaco in May, when Hamilton took the victory that sparked his run of four wins in five races and allowed him to reduce Nico Rosberg's championship lead from 43 points to just one.
Asked whether the Monaco and British GP performance suggested Hamilton has an edge over Rosberg in the wet, Wolff replied: "You're right, we've seen it in Monaco.
"Probably Monaco was a different one [as Rosberg struggled] in order to get the tyres in the right window.
"But Lewis was very confident, he was extremely focused, and calm and on a day like this [at Silverstone], Lewis Hamilton is unstoppable. I think that's what we've seen.
"It was Lewis' race because his pace at the beginning determined the rest of the outcome.
"Obviously Nico was in a hard battle with [Max] Verstappen, so it was clear that unless he [Hamilton] had a technical problem he would win the race, and that was a nice feeling."
Though Hamilton has all-but-eradicated Rosberg's championship lead with 10 races down and 11 to go, he has potential problems ahead as he approaches the limits for power unit components.
Hamilton is currently on his fifth and final MGU-H and turbocharger, with a 10-place grid penalty looming should a sixth of either be taken.
Asked whether Mercedes had analysed the potential for penalties given its remaining components, Wolff replied: "No, we haven't yet.
"We're trying to make it [through the season] on four [power units], not on five.
"It looks like we might have a penalty, but we need to see over the next few races how it's going to pan out and decide after the summer break."
