Lewis Hamilton: second in F1 2013 points still good Mercedes goal

Lewis Hamilton says finishing as runner-up to Red Bull in the 2013 Formula 1 standings would be a massive achievement for Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton: second in F1 2013 points still good Mercedes goal

Although all realistic hope of the title is now over, with Sebastian Vettel on the verge of a fourth world championship, Hamilton insists that there is still plenty for his team to play for over the rest of this year's F1 season.

"We are only one point behind Ferrari so we have to make sure in the next five races that we consistently beat them," said Hamilton, who finished fifth in Korea last weekend.

"Second in the constructors' championship would be huge for us.

"So that is my goal, to do that for the team.

"As for me, I have fallen down to fourth in the drivers' championship, and I still feel we can get higher."

Hamilton qualified on the front row in Korea, but he lost a place to Romain Grosjean on the first lap and then struggled to keep life in his tyres as he battled to recover.

He eventually finished fifth, and admitted it had not been one of his best performances of the season.

"I feel set-up wise we got ourselves in a really good place, and qualifying was really good," he said.

"In terms of the race, I feel it was a poor race. It just went from bad to worse.

"It has been similar in a couple of races, I've had some really good races this year - but I can't have them all right like Sebastian."
