Klien waits on Red Bull

Christian Klien is still waiting to hear whether he will join David Coulthard in Red Bull Racing's line-up for 2005. The Austrian, who raced with the team under its former guise as Jaguar Racing last year, is considered the favourite for the seat

Klien is an obvious candidate for the drive, but another of Red Bull's protégés, F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi, has also been linked with the role after some impressive performances in winter testing.

"Of course it would have been nice to find a contract for next season under the Christmas tree, but let us see," said Klien. "My birthday is in February. Maybe then? No, just kidding!

"Seriously, I have shown my best during the recent practices, tests and training and everyone seemed pleased and content. Now it's up to the team to decide. Hopefully the New Year will bring the decision in my favour."

Klien has admitted that he would relish the opportunity to work alongside the vastly experienced Coulthard - a 13-time grand prix winner. "I am happy about the news that David will join the team in 2005," he said. "I think he is a great guy, also very disciplined and fun to work with."
