JPM: Schumachers did the right thing

BMW WilliamsF1 Team driver Juan Pablo Montoya has given his support to team-mate Ralf Schumacher, after the German and his brother Michael decided to compete in the San Marino Grand Prix despite the death of their mother early last Sunday morning

The pair flew back to Germany after qualifying to be by their mother's side. Michael then went on to win the race on Sunday after fighting for the lead with his brother in the early laps.

Asked, after qualifying, if such circumstances make a driver concentrate harder Montoya replied: "I think it has, and probably in a good way. It is an extra motivation to do well for their mother and they are doing that.

"It is a bit weird because it has happened completely opposite to what happened on September 11 (when the Schumacher brothers were unhappy about competing in the Italian Grand Prix immediately after the terrorist strikes on the Twin Towers in New York). They both said on September 11 that they couldn't concentrate on their job because of that and now they are on the front row and it is really strange, but maybe they just wanted to do it for their mother and it could work really well.
