Jordan Lose Friday Driver for Montreal
Jordan Grand Prix have lost the right to run a third car on Friday morning in Canada due to a breach of the sporting regulations in yesterday's practice for the European Grand Prix
The team had come to a one-off arrangement to run Renault test driver Franck Montagny in place of Robert Doornbos at the Nurburgring. But they had breached article 74a of the F1 sporting regulations when the Frenchman used six sets of tyres on Friday.
In fact, many in the F1 paddock thought that tyre allocation for third drivers was completely unrestricted, with Jordan obviously among them, but the relevant rule specifies that no driver may use more than four sets of dry tyres during a race meeting.
Jordan sporting director Trevor Carlin said: "This was an honest mistake by the team and we realise now that it was against the current regulations.
"No unfair advantage was sought and we believe that none has been gained. We apologise to the FIA for this error in judgement."
