Jordan Consider Davidson for Race Seat

Jordan's sporting director Adrian Burgess said his team would be interested to sign Anthony Davidson for the 2006 season, as the BAR-Honda test driver looks for driving opportunities for next year

Jordan's line-up for next season remains in the balance, with the team leaving their option open but rejecting the speculations that both drivers will have to bring money to get the drive.

And with Davidson's test contract set to expire with BAR next month, the Briton could start testing for a new team before this year ends, further marking up his value.

Burgess, who was Davidson's race F3 engineer in 2001, told Autosport magazine: "We are talking to drivers for next year, including our current two, and it's not the case that we have to have two paying drivers.

"We would definitely be interested in Anthony, as he is a good talent. If we had a driver of that experience and ability, he'd be able to tell us a huge amount about the car and how to develop it."

Davidson has been test driver for BAR for the past four seasons and admitted that despite wishing to stay with his current team, he has had enough of sitting in the sidelines.

"I want to stay at BAR - it's the team I love," the Briton said. "But whatever happens I want top be a race driver. I've learned as much as I can testing and I have to race again."

Davidson's situation is made difficult by the uncertainty surrounding Jenson Button's future. Button wants to stay at BAR-Honda but may be forced to move to Williams, with whom he has a long-term contract.

Rubens Barrichello is all but confirmed at BAR for next season, while the future of Takuma Sato remains unknown. But conventional wisdom suggests Davidson's chances of landing a BAR racing seat are slim - and will only be possible should Button indeed leave the team.

Davidson acknowledges timing is key. "If a seat comes up I'm sure I would be in with a good chance, but I reckon it will be a late call," he said.
