Jordan anxious to prove pace
Jordan Mugen staff believe they have the best car after McLaren and Ferrari, but have not yet had the chance to confirm whether or not this is the case, or if other outfits have caught them up. Mike Gascoyne, the designer of the Jordan EJR10 believes the British Grand Prix will give them an opportunity to demonstrate their capability
"We are the third quickest team and we are closer to Ferrari and McLaren, but we have not proved that so far," said technical director Mike Gascoyne according to the Press Association
"We think we are right behind the top two teams. We are probably 0.2 to 0.3 seconds behind Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen in qualifying.
However, despite admitting that the top two teams are ahead on absolute pace, Gascoyne feels this does not preclude the Silverstone based outfit from getting amongst the leading Ferrari and McLaren cars during the race
"But then so are their number two drivers (Rubens Barrichello and David Coulthard) although they wouldn't like me calling them that. We think we can get in among those drivers. I think we should qualify a close fifth and sixth, but if we get it right and they make some slip-ups then third and fourth is possible."
The team has been unlucky with reliability this season, but still managed to grab third and fourth spots in the Brazilian Grand Prix with Heinz Harald Frentzen and Jarno Trulli, and is currently 4th in the constructors' points.
