Jerez, day 3: Pizzonia fastest on F1 return
Former Jaguar driver Antonio Pizzonia showed some indication of the form that caused the Williams team to praise the drive so highly by setting the fastest time on his return to the team on the third day of testing at Jerez in Spain today (Friday)
The Brazilian, who was a test-driver for Williams last season before signing to race for Jaguar, outpaced the team's regular test driver, Marc Gene, by 0.509s while working on set-up options for Suzuka.
Gene, meanwhile, conducted several long runs, including a race distance, working on Michelin tyres and basic set up for the final race of the season.
Ricardo Zonta was Toyota's lone representative on the final day of a four
day test for the team. The Brazilian, who took over driving duties from Ryan
Briscoe, worked on tyre testing and engine evaluation for Suzuka.
"We did a lot of work today specifically in preparation for next week's
Japanese GP in Suzuka," said Zonta. "We completed a lot of laps, working on
the set-up of the car, Michelin tyre testing, as well as running the new
spec engine, which we will use in Suzuka. It was a very good day and I think
we can be confident for next year's race."
